Novak Djokovic wins again in Miami! Serbian superstar’s quest for tennis immortality continues!

I’ve been a men’s tennis fan long enough to know when we are experiencing a real golden era in the sport.

To have three Hall of Fame greats – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – hungry and battling it out for the big titles is a rarity we haven’t seen this consistently since Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg made up the top three.

On Sunday, Djokovic reaffirmed that he is the best of bunch right now with a straight set win over fourth-ranked Andy Murray in the final of the Sony Ericcson Open.

Djokovic, who won his third Australian Open title in January, improved to 20-2 this year and 90-8 since the start of 2011. He also won the 2011 Wimbledon and US Open titles during that stretch.

“I’m playing at the peak of my form … the best tennis that I have played,” Djokovic said. “I have to use that as much as I can.”

While Djokovic seems certain to add to his five grand slam singles titles this year, Federer has been playing extremely well the past six months and badly wants to add another slam title to the record 16 he has already won. Meanwhile, Nadal will be aiming for a seventh French Open title in June and 11th slam crown overall.

There’s a lot of history being made and I’m enjoying every minute of it!

I agree, I haven’t seen such excellent tennis since watching and waiting for Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and especially Bjorn Borg to hit the courts.

  2. Cheers Novak! Love the contrasting styles he, Nadal and Federer have. I could watch Novak’s backhand all day long – seamless.

  3. I’m loving tennis these days, too (Novak is my hero). But I don’t think you ought to forget the heady days of Becker, Sampras, Agassi, Currier, Chang & Edberg when I really fell in love with the sport for the first time.
