Not many gays among SAG Award nominees

I made a comment the other night how the People’s Choice Awards had more openly gay nominees than I’d ever seen.

The same cannot be said of the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations which were announced early this morning.

I scanned all the categories of film and television and counted only five openly gay nominees: Jim Parsons, Denis O’Hare, Sarah Paulson, Portia de Rossi, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Yeah, there are a few other gays in there but until they are out publicly, they just don’t count in my tally.

But at least LGBT characters are recognized in the characters including Jared Leto’s heart-breaking as a trans woman with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club and Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as gay men in Behind the Candelabra.
