NFL: Dexter Manley calls Troy Aikman “a queer”
Kind of can’t believe this went down earlier today but sadly, it did.
Former Washington Redskins player Dexter Manley used an anti-gay slur to describe fellow retired NFL player Troy Aikman on a Washington DC radio show.
Manley was guesting on WTOP radio and discussing his former team’s loss over the weekend to the Dallas Cowboys for which Aikman was quarterback during his playing days.
One of the hosts jokingly asked if Aikman had jinxed the Redskins since he was commentating on the came for FOX Sports.
‘I think Troy Aikman is a queer,’ Manley responded.
Hosts Mike Moss and Bruce Alan asked Manley if it was something he wanted to take back.
‘No,’ Manley said. ‘I’ll just say I take that back. Since he’s a Cowboys fan.’
The hosts pressed the issue which led Manley to say: ‘I apologize.’
A statement was soon posted on the station’s website stating that Manley would not be welcome to appear again for making an ‘offensive and derogatory’ comment during the live chat.
‘We were shocked and stunned and we apologize to our listeners that this happened on WTOP,’ stated Jim Farley, vice president of news and programming.
‘WTOP has contacted a representative for Manley and informed her that he will not be returning,’ he added.
Later Monday, Manley issued a full apology saying he was ‘intending to be funny.’
‘I used a slur to refer to Troy Aikman. It was wrong and insensitive,’ he stated.’Anyone that knows me knows that’s not who I am in my heart or mind. I want to apologize to Troy, but I mostly want to apologize to anyone else I offended.’
‘Like a lot of people in these times, I have to realize that what I thought was funny years ago doesn’t work now. I’ll do my best to make sure it doesn’t happen again and hope you will accept my apology.’

Markt says:
Troy is crazy hot, so it could be wishful thinking.
Chip says:
I think the most disturbing part is that when given an out, he wasn’t quick enough to realize it and immediately apologize. It took prodding by those at the station trying to help him out. Perhaps it shouldn’t, but hearing minorities make slurs, even when unintentional, bugs me even more because of the things they’ve been through in their lifetimes.
Walt says:
Have you ever considered proof reading your posts before you put them up? You do this for a living, how about a little professionalism and striving for a post that isn’t littered with the wrong words.
Rrhain says:
But it is how you are in your heart and mind, Manley. If it weren’t, you wouldn’t have said it in the first place. If it weren’t, you wouldn’t have had to have been goaded into apologizing. If it weren’t, you wouldn’t have pulled the trite, “now how I am,” stupidity used by those who are only sorry they got caught.
This fake apologize gets the fake recognition it deserves.
Greg Hernandez says:
Okay Walt, I made an error. Thanks for pointing it out. I have fixed it. But I have no use for your scolding tone. Have you ever considered reading your rude comments before you put them up? You are a human being, how about a little effort to be diplomatic or polite and striving for a comment that isn’t littered with insults.
Anthony says:
You go Greg! People like Walt need to get a life.
Les says:
I also believe that people say what is in their heart. It is just another example of a minority thinking they can say what they want about a white male, gay or otherwise. The NFL and NBA are littered with them.
James says:
I met Troy in person once. He was HUGE yet perfectly proportioned. Like if you took a perfect human and multiplied him 1.5 times in size. Anyway, I shook his hand. Very nice guy.

Isn’t the old expression, it takes one to know one?
