New York Film Critics Circle award Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo for “The Kids Are All Right” which also wins for screenplay!

It’s no surprise that Annette Bening was named best actress by the New York Film Critics Circle on Monday for her performance in The Kids Are All Right.

The three-time Academy Award nominee is seen as a front-runner for another Oscar nod and possibly her first win after missing out for American Beauty, Being Julia, and The Grifters.

But few expected Mark Ruffalo to take home the supporting actor award for the same movie.

In the film, he plays the sperm donor father of the two children of Bening’s character and her partner played by Julianne Moore.

Kids, directed by Lisa Cholodenko, also won the best screenplay award for Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg.

The New York critics gave the best picture prize to The Social Network and best director to David Fincher who directed it. Melissa Leo was named best supporting actress for her role in The Fighter.
