Neil Patrick Harris to direct husband David Burtka’s cabaret show at 54 Below in NYC
When he won the Drama Desk Award in June for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Neil Patrick Harris hinted that it would soon be husband David Burtka’s turn to shine.
‘Thank you so much for your love and for your patience and your sacrifice in all that you do,’ Harris said that night. ‘And I can’t wait for the opportunity soon when these roles get to be reversed and I get to cheer you on up here doing what you do so well.’
That chance will come in November when Burtka stars in a solo cabaret act entitled Burtka, David at 54 Below in New York City on November 25 and 26.
The show will be directed by Harris who directed the Hollywood Bowl production of Rent a few years back.
‘We’ve been together for over ten years and when we first met I was doing a show,’ Harris said during his Drama Desk speech. ‘We were both doing shows at the same time and my path has led us mostly to Los Angeles and it has sort of uprooted him from what he had been doing.’
The couple relocated to New York City from Los Angeles earlier this year after Harris wrapped his final season of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and began rehearsals for Hedwig.
The club’s website states that for Burtka’s show, ‘Harris has taken the conventional cabaret structure and turned it upside down, creating a show unlike anything that has been seen before.’
It promises a show that will be ‘funny yet emotional, energetic yet raw.’

Dennis says:
Enough with these two! They are irritatingly over-exposed.
Greg Hernandez says:
My hunch is I’ll continue to post about them whenever I see fit so I hope your head does not explode.
Tim Howard says:
I have mellowed out some on those guys. I always totally enjoy NPH and know little about DB, but I see a happy couple with kids that seem to be happy too. I say WTF, live n let live. They are the poster men for successful gay marriage, so be it. I have never even heard DB speak. Maybe he can’t get a word in. If they are happy, go for it!
I still enjoy this opening of the 65 Tony Awards, check it out again and in-joy!

This will end in tears.
K. Martinez says:
They may be over-exposed, but they’re also one of the more positive gay couples out there with some longevity. I hope these two last.
