Neil Patrick Harris says ‘I don’t think that kids need a father and a mother necessarily’
I love what Neil Patrick Harris is saying here about being a parent:
‘We don’t encourage our child to only play with Barbies but if our son picks up a Barbie doll and wants to play with it, okay. Parents need to be more accepting of who their kids are and less concerned about what society thinks they need to be.’
Neil, of course, is raising fraternal twins Gideon and Harper – a boy and a girl – with longtime partner David Burtka.
He is among the gay celebs in The Out List, an HBO documentary directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders that airs on Thursday.
‘I don’t think that kids need a father and a mother necessarily,’ Harris says in the documentary. ‘I think they need male and female role models but I don’t think that means we shouldn’t have kids because we’re two guys.’
