National Hockey League star Sean Avery of the New York Rangers speaks out for marriage equality

Homophobia is still raging in sports so it means a lot to have a famous professional athlete like Sean Avery speak out for marriage equality.

The New York Ranger forward announced that his support for marriage equality in New York state via a video for the Human Rights Campaign saying: “I’m Sean Avery and I’m a New Yorker for marriage equality. I treat everyone the way I expect to be treated, and that applies to marriage. Committed couples should be able to marry the person they love. Join me in supporting marriage equality.”

Unfortunately, he’s had to endure some criticism via Twitter from a hockey agent who has some crazy ideas about gay people. You can read about that angle in USA Today.
