My thoughts on Blaine and Kurt on “Glee”

I’m a few days late on this, but did want to weigh in on the most recent episode of Glee where Kurt and Blaine made love for the first time as did Rachel and Finn.

Predictably, the Parents Television Council made a fuss before the episode even aired complaining that it encouraged teens to have sex. As if teens don’t want to have sex anyway and as if there have not been countless shows featuring teens having sex. But this included two male teens having sex and that, no doubt, is what the fuss was all about.

But much to FOX’s credit, they aired the episode and what we saw was a show that was more about love than sex. This is clear when Kurt wraps his arms around Blaine and says: “You take my breath away.”

It was all very tasteful and sweet and after it was over, the Earth did continue to rotate on its axis.

I loved the scenes in the gay bar, Scandals, where Kurt (Chris Colfer) cuts in on Blaine (Darren Criss) and Sebastian (newcomer Grant Gustin) and claims his man! That he was urged on by, of all people, Dave Karofsky (Max Adler) who bullied Kurt to the point that he temporarily left McKinley High.

Karofsky is no longer a closet case and seems to have worked out his issues. I’m not sure if we’ll see him again this season but it was an interesting way to bring him back. Unfortunately, his “reunion” with Kurt lost some of its power because it happened as Kurt was watching Blaine and Sebastian dance.

While a wasted Blaine was ready to have sex in the car outside the bar, the couple ended up waiting until the moment was right for the both of them and it was a beautiful thing.

It’s nice that Glee, unlike 90210 and its Teddy storyline, actually allows its gay characters to grow and to experience the highs and lows of romance in a believable way alongside their straight counterparts.
