My profile of Michael Ausiello who is portrayed by Jim Parsons in exceptional new movie “Spoiler Alert”

It’s not often I would profile someone I know personally but this was really worth making an exception for.

Well-known TV journalist Michael Ausiello wrote a best-selling memoir called “Spoiler Alert” back in 2017 which I read then and reread during the pandemic. Made me cry and laugh and feel.

This wonderful book has been made into a movie that hits theaters next month with four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons portraying Michael and Ben Aldridge as his late husband, Kit Cowan. The film tells the story of their 13-year relationship and Kit’s last year of life. Two-time Oscar winner Sally Field portrays Kit’s mother.

When we were at a barbecue last June, I suggested Michael let me profile him for Trojan Family Magazine since he is a USC alum who was the first-ever TV critic for the Daily Trojan. He agreed and we did the interview on campus in September.

Focus Features will first release Spoiler Alert in Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco on Dec. 2. It will go into wide release nationwide on Dec. 9.
