My interview with David Moretti, star of “The Lair”
If you haven’t watched the sexy vampire soap The Lair on here! TV, the second season is now out on DVD and a third season has already been shot for airing in the summer. I had a chat a few days ago with the handsome lead of the show, David Moretti, who plays Thom Etherton.
Q. All new? You’re back for season three right?
A. It’s an awesome season, it’s 13 episodes. It’s so much fun with all new characters and great scripts. There’s all the original cast and just a bunch of new characters. There’s like 45 cast members this season. We’re realling pushing the line, it’s sexy, it’s campy, it’s fun. It’s just a great vampire story which is awesome because vampires are so hot right now. We were a little ahead of the trend and now the trend is totally here and present.
Q. Your show certainly doesn’t shy away from sex scenes. Actors say they are always so uncomfortable to shoot. Is that true for you?
A. (Laughs) They were uncomfortable the first season but now that it’s the third season I’ve done more than my fair share of them. I’m beginning to just enjoy the exhibitionary aspect of it. It’s kind of a lot of fun.
Q. You must have a hard-core workout routine during the season!
A. I go on the craziest diet when I’m shooting that show. I do not eat a thing except for animal or vegetable and that is it. No procewssed carbs, no sugar, no liquor no nothing.
Q. Your character is gay. Are you?
A. I am gay. I am out.
Q. Were you out before The Lair?
A. Well, The Lair was my first major gig so I didn’t really have an opportunity or a need to come out publicly. I was out to my friends but not to the entertainment world so The Lair was the impetus to bring me out of the closet I suppose. Or out of the coffin.

Q. When you were a kid thinking of being an actor, did you ever think that you’d be out professionally?
A. That was one of thise struggles I think a lot of actors go through and that’s why there are so many closeted gay actors in Hollywood. You really don’t know where your career is going to take you and everyone always feeds this notion to you that you have to be straight to be accepted. That’s why I’m so fortunate to have the career I have because I’m allowed to be an out actor while being myself and so few people have that opportunity. I know so many who have so many problems in the Hollywood scene because they cannot be themselves. They’re trying to be this facade of being straight and they’re not and it’s awful and they’re all in therapy. I don’t need therapy and I’m happy.
By the way: David grew up in Rhode Island then attended Boston College and USC. He’s also single! Check out his cool Web site: davidmorettionline.com
