My chat with Shane Bitney Crone about Oscar shortlist hopes for his documentary “Bridegroom”

Shane Bitney Crone isn’t expecting to be standing up on stage on Oscar night accepting the Academy Award for best documentary feature.

But he is hopeful that that his film, Bridegroom, at least makes the shortlist of 15 films that will emerge from the 151 documentaries eligible for Oscars this year.

‘To me, it is just unbelievable that we are even a part of that conversation,’ Shane told me during a telephone chat yesterday morning. ‘I definitely didn’t do into it with that in mind. If it even makes the shortlist that would be huge because being such a small film, it would help us reach so many.’
