My chat with Michelle Rodriguez

It was so terrific to meet Michelle Rodriguez the other night at the An Evening With Women event.

I like her vibe!

It was in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last fall that Michelle publicly – and quite casually – confirmed that she is bisexual.

This was her first public appearance at an LGBTI event since that confirmation – it was a a benefit for the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center.

Michelle was the celebrity DJ at the after-party for the annual bash organized by rocker Linda Perry.

‘Linda hit me up and told me what she’s been doing for a whole bunch of years and I wanted to come check it out,’ Michelle told me on the red carpet.

She said her life has not really changed since publicly coming out but then again, she didn’t expect it to.

‘It’s cool man, I mean whatever,’ she said. ‘I’m not big on people’s opinions, you know? Unless it’s somebody I really respect. I don’t care what people out there have to say.’

‘But I do realize the importance of having the bravery to live as who you are and I feel like a lot of people don’t have that bravery,’ added.

But as one of the stars of such films as Avatar, Blue Crush, Machete Kills, the hugely successful Fast & Furious franchise and the TV series Lost, Michelle realizes she’s in the position to make a difference.

‘Maybe by me opening my big fat mouth like I usually do and stepping up and owning who I am, maybe it might inspire somebody else to do the same.’
