My chat with Kim Wayans about “Pariah”

The outstanding drama Pariah opens in theaters on Friday and I can highly recommend this deeply-moving and superbly written and directed film.

For anyone familiar with Kim Wayans’ work as a comedy actress on such shows as In Living Color and In the House will be astounded be her dramatic chops in Pariah.

Here’s now she describes her role as a woman who desperately does not want her teenage daughter to be gay: She’s a very domineering presence in her daughter’s life and she wants to control her. You have a desperate mother desperate to save her child. She just broke my heart. I didn’t see her as a monster or a villain. She’s was just as much a victim of her beliefs. She was so sad, so sad and so lonely and disconnected from everyone else.’
