My chat with “Chico’s Angels” hunk Duke Shoman!

Every episode of the Chico’s Angels stage shows feature a hunky young guy who spends much of the show shirtless.

This summer, that role is being quite capably filled by Duke Shoman who I watched perform several roles in Chico’s Angels 2: Love Boat Chicas last night.

After the show, female celebrity guests Patricia Heaton and Debbie Gibson were only too happy to pose for photos with this very buff and handsome guy who makes his stage debut in this production.

I chatted with Duke earlier in the week and he told me he had auditioned to be in last summer’s Chico’s Angels show, did not get the part but was remembered a year later.

Sharing the stage with the hilarious Freida Laye, Kay Sedia and Chita Patrol but Duke says “I don’t break up. I get to watch the show backstage that’s where I do my laughing.”

“It was pretty intimidating getting up there after the initial rehearsals and seeing all the characters come to life. The cast is so professional and so on point. They are all so good. With this being my first stage role, I was very humbled.”

The show plays at the Cavern Theatre in Silver Lake through Aug. 17 – a theater located in the basement in the basement of Casita del Campo restaurant. Audience members can bring their drinks into the show.

“It’s always different, you never know what kind of audience you are going to get,” Duke says. “It’s just a crap shoot. Sometimes people trying to get on stage with us!’

So did this muscular guy step-up his time in the gym in the weeks leading up the the show?

Not any more than usual.

“I’m just fortunate, I have high metabolism. I don’t really have to work for it – I’m pretty blessed. I was born in the gym, am a second generation body builder and I work out every day.”
