MTV Movie Award nominations include nod for out actor Ezra Miller for breakthrough performance

If you’ve seen The Perks of Being a Wallflower (if not, you must!) then you already know what a phenomenal actor Ezra Miller is.

He plays a gay high school student who is eccentric and happy – until he gets his heart really broken.

Miller, who is openly gay in real life, is so superb and I’m glad to see that he has been nominated for an MTV Movie Award in the category Breakthrough Performance.

His competition is: Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables); Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi); Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect).

I’ve covered the MTV Movie Awards several times and yes, they are star-studded, but they are silly.

The categories can be ridiculous! This year they include ‘Best Scared As Shit Performance’ and ‘Best WTF Moment.’

You also have a Best Male Performance category that includes Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis and fellow Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper.

Then you have Ben Affleck, of course, who has basically won every award in sight since he was snubbed for a best director Oscar nod. The fourth nominee is Jamie Foxx for Django Unchained. So who does the fifth slot go to you wonder? Why Channing Tatum for Magic Mike!

A category more fitting for Tatum is Best Shirtless Performance and yup, that’s a real category and he is nominated. His competition is mostly pretty stellar: Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises); Daniel Craig (Skyfall) and Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2). Oh wait! There’s one more! Seth MacFarlane as Ted in Ted.

The awards will be handed out on April 14 and be hosted by Rebel Wilson who has been nominated in three categories.

One Remark

  1. He’s not gay, he’s queer. More pansexual from the sounds of it. But still, you’re right, he’s great.
