Morning Men Classics: Starsky & Hutch!
There was not, in my opinion, a more dreamy cop team in the 70s than Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul – aka Starsky and Hutch.
I had a bigger crush on Paul with that curly black hair, beautiful blue eyes, hairy chest and tight jeans! But then David was the one with the number one hit record Don’t Give Up On Us Baby which was a huge smash.
From 1975-79, they played Det. Dave Starsky and Det. Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson, two streetwise cops who busted criminals in their red-and-white Ford Torino with the help of police snitch called Huggy Bear.
Paul once said in an interview: “I think between David’s and my chemistry and the notion of a buddy show, which I think, if I’m not mistaken, was the first of its kind on television…we had “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” as a feature, but we hadn’t seen that kind of pairing,… male bonding,.. whatever you want to call it in television. So this was kind of a first.”
These days, Paul mostly writes and directs and continues his activism in the fight against Pediatric AIDS after losing his wife Elizabeth and their daughter to the disease. David still acts, mostly doing theater and shows for BBC television.

My crush was David Soul. I still have his record as one of my favorites of all times. Where the hell has good music (and good singers) gone? I never missed that show. Natural sidekicks (not like today).

I saw David Soul in the title role of Jerry Springer in Jerry Springer, the Opera, at the Cambridge Theater in London about 15 years ago. The show was hilarious!
