Morning Man Classics: Oscar Winners Edition

Happy Oscars Sunday!

I think this is a great time to feature some of our most handsome winners of the Academy Award. It’s not a complete collection, of course, and these are some obvious suspects!

You have to lead with the late, great Robert Redford because, well, look at him! He was as fine a looking man has ever graced our movie screens in such films as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Way We Were, All the Presidents Men and The Natural. But his competitive Oscar was for his behind the scenes work as the director of 1980’s Ordinary People. He later received an honorary Academy Award as well.

Also featured in this post: 10-time nominee and two-time winner Denzel Washington (Best Actor for Training Day (2001), Best Supporting Actor for Glory (1989); two-time winner Brad Pitt (Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2020) and Best Picture as a producer for 12 Years a Slave (2014); Six-time Best Actor nominee Daniel Day-Lewis. His wins were for My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012); Warren Beatty who won for Best Director for Reds (1981) and has been nominated for 15 Academy Awards, including acting, directing, producing, and writing nominations for films like Bonnie and ClydeHeaven Can Wait, and Bugsy. He was also honored with the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1999; Maximilian Schell won for Best Actor in 1961 for playing a lawyer in the legal drama Judgment at Nuremberg and was nominated twice more for acting; Sidney Poitier made history as the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, receiving the honor at the 36th Academy Awards on April 13, 1964, for his role as Homer Smith in Lilies of the Field (1963). He was a trailblazing actor and later received an Honorary Oscar in 2001.
