Morning Man Classic: John F. Kennedy

He was gone much, much too soon.

John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, was born 107 years ago today.

The only president to win a Purple Heart, we will never, ever forget him.

Here are a some of photos of JFK from his pre-presidential days which ended tragically on that day in Dallas in 1963 when JFK was just 46.

I’ve included several photos of JFK with his gay best friend Lem Billings who he met at Choate, an elite preparatory school, in the fall of 1933. Billingd was a prep school roommate of Kennedy, an usher at his wedding and a campaigner for his successful 1960 presidential bid. Joseph Kennedy Sr. called him “my second son,” and he sometimes acted as escort for several of the Kennedy women. Billings served with Sargent Shriver as a trustee for the Kennedy family trusts.

“Jack made a big difference in my life,” Billings once said. “Because of him, I was never lonely. He may have been the reason I never got married.”

2 Remarks

  1. If you have not read the book– Jack and Lem: John F. Kennedy and Lem Billings: The Untold Story of an Extraordinary Friendship–Davi Pitts–find it because it is a good read.

The book details the deep relationship between Jack and Liam. They were together through thick and thin. The book details the time when Liam propositioned Jack. Jack turned him down and said it was not his thing. Liam even had a room in the White House when Jack was president and came and went like he was family.

    Great book!!

  2. PS–I went down the rabbit hole and came across an article stating Lem and Jack’s relationship was a lot more. Interesting. I could see it working out that way.
