Morning Man Classic: Heath Ledger!

Heath Ledger, the Oscar winning Aussie actor who died far too soon, was born 45 years ago today.
He was such a marvelous actor and even though he only lived to be 28, there are performances he gave that will stand the test of time
There’s first and foremost the heartbreaking Oscar-nominated turn as Ennis in Brokeback Mountain. It is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in which Ledger conveys the heartbreak and anguish of forbidden love just brilliantly. Of course he was a revelation as Joker in The Dark Knight and won the Academy Award posthumously. Some of my other favorite Heath performances were in Monster’s Ball, Lords of Dogtown and 10 Things I Hate About You.
Heath was so good that I remember going to a screening of a kind of terrible movie called The Four Feathers on the Paramount lot and not loving it but Ledger’s performance had me mesmerized.
He was so, so good and thankfully his performances will live on forever.

Victor C. says:
The tale of Brokeback Mountain haunts me to this day.
Heath’s and Jake’s performances were/are outstanding.
The anguish of the characters.
Pay close attention to Ennis finding his shirt hanging in Jake’s bedroom closet in his parent’s house and the end of the film of the shirt hanging in Ennis’ closet in his trailer. The position is different. Breaks my heart every time. A love lost.
We have come a long way in acceptance in the gay community. Just the bravery it took to live one’s truth in 1963. May we never take for granted the advances we have made and continue to make in the LGBTQ+ community.
