Morning Man Classic: Don Murray!

Remember handsome Don Murray from the first few seasons of Knots Landing when he played Sid Fairgate?

He turns 92 years old today!

Sid was married to Karen (Michelle Lee) and they lived next door to Gary and Val (Ted Shackleford and Joan Van Ark) and across the street from his sister Abby (Donna Mills).

But Sid died during surgery that was supposed to make him walk again and he became paralyzed in a car “accident” that occurred after some bad guy involved with Gary cut his brakes.

Oh the drama!

Anyway, Don was around long before Knots Landing. He made his Broadway debut in 1951 in The Rose Tattoo then got his big break in movies starring opposite Marilyn Monroe in 1956’s Bus Stop for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

He married Hope Lange, with whom he also starred with in the film, and they had two children before divorcing.

He then went on to star in such films as The Bachelor Party, A Hatful of Rain, Advise and Consent, Baby the Rain Must Fall, and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Knots Landing went on to run more than a decade after Don left the show. He spent his time appearing in an assortment of TV movies, doing guest spots on various series and doing some feature roles including the 1986 film Peggy Sue Got Married.

He was still acting until a few years ago with his most recent credits being the 2017 film The Hard Ride and the third season of Twin Peaks, also known as Twin Peaks: The Return.
