“Modern Family” wedding begins this week!
Modern Family’s harried gay dads Mitch and Cam are tying the knot in a two-part wedding season finale that begins airing this week.
Eric Stonestreet, who has won two Emmys over five seasons for his portrayal of Cam, told Ellen DeGeneres this week on her daytime talk show that it’s a culmination for the characters and for fans.
‘It’s a great journey that Mitch and Cam have been on,’ he said. ‘It’s what the audience deserves and what Mitch and Cam deserve and I’m just glad we’re getting to do it.’
Stonestreet’s parents happened to be in the set the day the wedding episode was shot and co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson later told him: ‘Your parents welcomed me into the family!’
While it is fiction, sometimes the emotions did get very real.
‘During rehearsal Jesse and I were both tearing up a little bit and we were like, “Wait, we don’t want to do this now. We want to save it!”‘

Charlie says:
I wonder what Eric Stonestreet’s parents think of him playing a gay character on TV? It must be odd for them. Eric is a great actor. He has really embraced the role. I think he is really funny!
John Smith says:
Gee. I wonder what they would think if he played an axe-murderer or a Wall Street crook. Duh. They would think he was acting–and doing it quite well. I doubt that would find it odd.
