Miss California controversy has upside: It’s brought Miley and Britney out of the closet on gay marriage
When I read that both Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus had spoken out in favor of gay marriage after the whole Miss California situation, I was annoyed because I wondered what the heck took them so long to take a public stand. I mean, why not before the darned Nov. 4 election when Prop. 8 was passed.
But then I thought some more: with all of their millions of young fans, their support is welcomed anytime – particularly Miley’s who is a role model for so many young girls out there (Britney not-so-much though she has gotten her act together lately).
Britney’s tweet was short and sweet: “Love is love! People should be able to do whatever makes them happy!”
Miley tweeted Perez Hilton – also at the center of this controversy – saying: “Jesus loves you and your partner and wants you to know how much he cares! That’s like a daddy not loving his lil boy cuz he’s gay and that is wrong and very sad! Like I said everyone deserves to be happy. I am a Christian and I love you — gay or not. Because you are no different that anyone else! We are all God’s children!”
