Miles Heizer & Max Parker talk gay Marine drama ‘Boots’ & navigating Hollywood as out actors
Netflix’s must-see new series #Boots stars Miles Heizer as closeted Marine recruit Cameron Cope toughing it out through the grueling 13-week boot camp in an era before Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Meanwhile, Max Parker plays his hard-nosed drill sergeant Sullivan with some secrets of his own, and as the two come to realize just how much they have in common, both grapple with the costs of living a lie and what it really means to be one of the few, the proud—a Marine.
For @younggoth & @maxparker____ , working on the series was a chance to reflect on just how far we’ve come, especially as both actors have questioned just how “out” they could be if they wanted the kinds of careers they’ve always dreamed of.
With ‘Boots’ now streaming, Queerty spoke with the pair about their own journeys into the entertainment industry, the complex & rarely seen dynamic between their characters, and all of the surprising challenges that come with bringing a boot camp drama to life, from shaved heads to the towering Stairway to Heaven.
