Michael Sam’s father found out just last week his star football player son is gay – he’s not happy about it
I don’t know if Michael Sam is very close to his father, Michael Sam Sr., but I’m going to guess not so much.
The NFL prospect and current media sensation came out to his University of Missouri teammates last fall but it was just last week that he came out to his father.
It came via a three word text: “Dad I’m gay.”
The elder Sam was having a meal at Denny’s at the time and celebrating his birthday.
The party stopped cold, according to The New York Times.
“I couldn’t eat no more, so I went to Applebee’s to have drinks,” Sam Sr. said. “I don’t want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment.”
“I’m old school,” he added. “I’m a man-and-a-woman type of guy.”
But Sam Sr. says he loves his son and he said he hopes he makes it to the NFL.
“As a black man, we have so many hurdles to cross,” he said. “This is just one he has to cross.”

O BOO HOO, From what I have read about the childhood of Michael Sam his father has more problems than his son being gay. He will most likely have to return his Father of the Year Award. Oh, that’s right he never got one,wonder why.

… I can’t wait to see his quote, the day after his son is drafted. I suspect once his son is a Millionaire.., he won’t have a problem with his ‘grandkids being raised in that kind of environment.’ Shameful, especially in 2014 that young black gay men still have to deal with kind of intolerance.

Consider how he found out, three word text message? His son could have been more considerate of his father’s feelings and prepared him for the fact what was going to happen; something massive. At least the father was honest enough to say what he thinks. He might not agree but he said he loves his son and was concerned about how it would affect him. I give him credit for that.
My Dad, when I told him. I had it all planned out. I got part way in to it and he stopped me. He said, “It’s like buying a bicycle. You just have to get the brand that’s right for you.” That was the end of the discussion on his part. I, personally, could have fallen out of the booth on to the floor. That has always been his approach that is was my decision how to approach it and he has backed me up.
