Michael Sam to be on “Dancing With the Stars”

Michael Sam has been chosen to appear on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

The first openly gay player ever drafted by a National Football League team will be among the celebrities competing when the season’s roster is unveiled this morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, according to TMZ.

Sam made the cover of Sports Illustrated when he came out publicly just after completing his stellar college career at the University of Missouri.

He made history last year when he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams but was dropped by the team after the pre-season. He was then signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad then cut a short time later.

Sam is still determined to compete in the NFL.

He has not yet commented publicly on DWTS with his most recent post on Twitter praising Oscar winning screenwriter Graham Moore.

Sam tweeted: ‘Loved what @MrGrahamMoore had to stay… Moving and important. #StayWeird indeed!’

The former NFL players who have won the competition in previous seasons of DWTS are Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward and Donald Driver.

One Remark

  1. Sam who is keeping himself in the public eye which is so incredible has to be careful he doesn’t forget about the NFL all together, which would be sad because he is talented, disciplined and is a talented player. I can really see him making some serious changes in the sport all together and that goes along with the dreams of an actually OUT player having a jersey (with his number and name on it) that many of LGBTIQ community would buy and wear with pride. It would be awesome to start see the community at large going to games and representing a community that has been sometimes shut out and even overlooked when it came down to the NFL. Someone has to be the trailblazer and why not him? I do wish him luck on DWTS which is a pretty tough gig but it’s awesome how many households that the contestants get a chance to get into and actually change some hearts and minds all together.
