Meryl Streep to present Shirley MacLaine with American Film Institute Life Achievement Award next month

Anyone who knows me even a little bit is aware of my love for the movie Postcards From the Edge, a brilliantly written and acted 1990 drama based on Carrie Fisher’s best-selling novel of the same name. Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine were perfection as mother and daughter movie stars, fictionalized versions of Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds.

So how perfect is it that it will be Miss Streep, who won her third Oscar this year, has been chosen to present the prestigious American Film Institute Life Achievement Award to Miss MacLaine.

The private black tie gala will be held at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City on June 7 and will air on TV Land on June 24.

MacLaine is a six-time Academy Award nominee and won the Oscar in 1984 for Terms of Endearment.

Streep has already received the AFI Award as has MacLaine’s younger brother, Warren Beatty.

Here are a trio of my favorite Shirley-Meryl scenes from Postcards.
