Meryl Streep to be honored at Berlin Film Festival
This is shaping up to be a strong awards season for the great Meryl Streep – one I sincerely culminates in her winning a long overdue third Academy Award for The Iron Lady.
It was announced earlier today that Miss Streep will be honored for her wide-ranging career at this year’s Berlin film festival with an honorary Golden Bear, the event’s top award, on Feb. 14.
Festival director Dieter Kosslick said: ‘We are delighted to be able to award the Honorary Golden Bear to such a terrific artist and world star. Meryl Streep is a brilliant, versatile performer who moves with ease between dramatic and comedic roles.’
Streep will be honored at a screening of The Iron Lady in which she plays former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The festival also will screen older Streep films, including Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie’s Choice. She won Academy Awards for both of those films.
Streep has been nominated for a record 16 Oscars.
