Meryl Streep gets record 20th Oscar nomination!
Overrated? I don’t think so. More like the greatest ever.
Today Meryl Streep received the 20th Oscar nomination of her astounding career.
This one is for Florence Foster Jenkins and is well-deserved.
I hope this leads to more people seeing the film and enjoying her spectacular performance and non-nominee Hugh Grant in one of the best roles of his career.
Meryl has held the record for most nominations for a few years now, with Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson tied behind her with 12 nominations each.
Before this year, Meryl was most recently nominated for her performance in Into the Woods.
Of the 20 times she’s been nominated, she’s won three times, for Sophie’s Choice (1982 ceremony), Kramer v. Kramer (1979) and The Iron Lady (2012).
I think she should have also won for Julie & Julia and Doubt.
At the 2017 ceremony next month she’ll face off against Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Isabelle Huppert and Ruth Negga.
Below is the gif Meryl sent out this morning as her statement – it says it all.
