Meryl Monday: Miss Streep’s visit to James Lipton and his students on “Inside the Actors Studio”
Yeah, James Lipton is a big suck up on Inside the Actors Studio but would we want him any other way?
What I love is that James is equally in awe of the great Meryl Streep – the finest living actress and possibly greatest actress ever – as he has been of such lesser acting talents as say, Rosie O’Donnell.
Anyway, Meryl is so great as other people but she’s also pretty awesome as herself. I love how she shares when she wore a push-up bra when trying to convince Sidney Pollack that she was sexy enough for a movie role (I’m guessing Out of Africa).
I love how she talks about acting and deadpans when describing Dancing at Lughnasa which she was promoting at the time of the appearance: “You’re going to want to run right out and see it because it’s about five unmarried sisters in Depression Ireland.”
Since she was provided with someone on the set to help her with her Irish accent, Meryl said her process was completely thrown out of whack: “I couldn’t remember my lines, I didn’t know why I existed. … and I had a complete nervous breakdown.”
Enjoy Meryl being Meryl.
