Meryl Monday: It’s an all you can eat paradise for Miss Streep in “Defending Your Life”

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Q9NQZZ5ZL.jpgWe are now so used to seeing Meryl Streep do just about anything on screen, it’s hard to believe there was a time when we thought she was could only do heavy drama or roles with some kind of foreign accent.

That’s why 1991’s Defending Your Life was such a wonderful treat because it was Meryl, looking as lovely as she ever did, playing such an upbeat character so enthusiastic about food and about life (even in death!).

She starred opposite Albert Brooks in this film which takes place in the afterlife.

The two are in Judgement City having their lives reviewed and awaiting their fates.

Meryl’s character of Julia pretty much eats non-stop in the movie because in Judgement City, you can order anything you want – it’s all delicious – and you don’t gain any weight!

Sounds like heaven to me!

Meryl eats with gusto throughout the film and in this clip, I love watching her eating what has got to be the longest pasta noodle since the one Lucy Ricardo ate at the Brown Derby.

Enjoy

Bonus Video: Meryl did a fun unbilled cameo in the 2004 comedy Stuck On You starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as conjoined twins. Meryl plays herself in a movie that also featured her Silkwood co-star Cher who also played a fictionalized version of herself:
