Melissa Etheridge’s attorney after court: “[Tammy] is being completely supported”
A judge has denied Tammy Lynn Michaels‘ request for $25,000 – immediately – from former partner Melissa Etheridge.
The judge said the Tammy doesn’t need the big lump sum right away because Melissa is already paying $2,000 a month to cover household bills including utilities and a car lease.
“[Tammy] is being completely supported by Melissa and has been since they separated,” Melissa’s attorney Neal Hersh told PEOPLE after appearing at a hearing. “She’s being well-provided for and then some, as are the children, which are Melissa’s first priority.”
Tammy’s attorney Steven Knowles acknowledged that Etheridge is paying “various sundry expenses,” but says that Tammy is “destitute” and without cash as she cares for the former couple’s two children.
“It doesn’t put money in her wallet,” Knowles said. “Literally she has no cash.”
The next hearing is set for September.
Etheridge is seeking joint custody of the kids while Michaels wants full custody.
