“Maude: The Complete Series” to be on DVD!
And then there’s Maude! Uncompromising, enterprising, anything but tranquilizing right on Maude…
Oh yes, this is gonna be delicious.
Shout! Factory has announced that on March 17th they will release Maude – The Complete Series on DVD. The 19-disc set contains all 141 episodes of this glorious show starring Beatrice Arthur. (Season one had previously been released but not subsequent seasons).
While many TV viewers under the age of 35 might know Miss Arthur best from her seven seasons on The Golden Girls, those of us a bit older remember her six glorious seasons on CBS as the very liberal and outspoken Maude Findlay on this groundbreaking sitcom.
Miss Arthur won her first Emmy for this sitcom which technically was a spinoff from All in the Family because the character was introduced in an episode of that sitcom as Edith Bunker’s cousin (see video below). Once CBS execs saw Miss Arthur as Maude, they knew she had to have her own show.
The series co-starred William Macy as Maude’s husband Walter, Conrad Bain as her neighbor Arthur, future Golden Girl Rue McClanahan as Arthur’s wife Vivian, Adrienne Barbeau as Maude’s daughter Carol, and Esther Rolle as housekeeper Florida.

I bought the first year DVD. I really had hoped they would be releasing the rest of the series. I hadn’t seen the show since it origionally aired. I was pretty young then, but I did remember some of the episodes. Glad to hear that they will be selling copies of the rest of the series.

About time the show was as you say ground breaking. Watched the first season on DVD last year and was amazed how well it held up! Really looking forward to this release of the other shows.
