Matt Bomer wins well-deserved Golden Globe Award for superb performance in “The Normal Heart”
So happy for Matt Bomer – so happy.
He won the Golden Globe Award tonight for his heartbreaking performance in The Normal Heart.
Bomer portrayed New York Times reporter Felix Turner in the film based in the play by Larry Kramer about the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City.
‘Larry Kramer, thank you for your anger and your passion and writing this story that changed so many lives,’ Bomer said.
He also thanked director Ryan Murphy ‘for believing in me and trusting me with this role, walking me through it every day’ and co-star Mark Ruffalo ‘for providing the heart and soul of this movie.’
‘You are the best actor that anybody could ever hope to have as a scene partner,’ he said of Ruffalo who played a character based on Kramer.
Bomer, who came out publicly in 2013, also thanked husband Simon Halls and their three children for their support during the making of a movie for which he dropped approximately 40 pounds.
‘I love you, thank you for putting up with me when I was 130 pounds and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me.’
Bomer grew emotional at the end of his speech when he said: ‘To the generation that we lost and the people we continue to lose to this disease, I just want to say we love you.
‘We remember you.’

I really hate to be the guy whining: “I told you so, I told you so!” but I literally did tell everyone that would listen that Matt Bomer’s performance was just incredible. His performance was just brilliant and there couldn’t have been a better choice for this award, even though there were some awesome guys in his category but he was top-choice in my book.
If ‘The Normal Heart’ was a motion picture, I’m just taking a wild stab in the dark but Matt’s performance was literally Oscar-worthy. He didn’t just make Felix believable but you can see that every frame or shot that Felix was in, Matt was completely committed and invested 1,000,000,000% to this role. The hospital scene, I just truly lost it and right there and then, I just knew that Matt Bomer wasn’t just a good-looking guy, who got roles because of what he looked like (I know it helps because boyfriend is dreamy all day and especially all night) but literally you saw something so special, so tender and so real. I’m waiting very patiently but I truly can’t wait to see Matt playing screen-legend and secret gay icon, Montgomery Clift (R.I.P.). I’m just thinking who is going to play the late and darling of amfAR, Dame Elizabeth Taylor. In all honesty the entire cast of ‘The Normal Heart’ from Mark (my imaginary husband, he is so damn HOT) to Jim (too-die-for comic genius) and Julia Roberts, who I also thought was pretty amazing, did a bang-up job, she was raw, real and passionate.
Ryan Murphy can’t do any wrong in my eyes and this was a bit of a ‘labor of love’ for Ryan to get this made but mainly because there weren’t too many people as passionate about this project. Ryan being this power-player with this serious ‘Midas Touch’ in the business of show, once he was on board, it had to be made and made right. Mr. Murphy truly honored and paid a living tribute to Larry Kramer any time you saw him in interviews talking about the project.
Any movie or show about AIDS/HIV seems to be a real hard sell in Hollywood but when ‘The Normal Heart’ debut on HBO, I sat and watched in awe. I laughed, I cried, I experience some kind of anger and then I went through the emotions all over again and then I truly knew that this is what a good movie does for you.
I can’t imagine the world not knowing about ‘the lost generation’ of the many beautiful and very sweet souls (R.I.P.) and this movie did that.
The struggle of AIDS/HIV would be televised for the world to get some ideal about what really happened and how the fight still continues to this day.

Sunday night’s Golden Globe win had to be extra special for Matt Bomer since it came on the eve of his husband Simon Halls’ 51st birthday (Born Jan. 12, 1964). What better birthday present can there be than seeing the person you love be recognized for their talent. So: Congratulations to Matt Bomer on his Golden Globe. Congratulation to Simon Halls on his birthday. Congratulations to the married couple and their sons for being such a positive role model of a sustained family unit.
