Matt Bomer to play Montgomery Clift in movie!

This is just too delicious for words.
One of my favorite actors of today is going to portray one of my favorite actors of all time.
That would be Matt Bomer playing Montgomery Clift.
Clift and Bomer are similarly handsome – beautiful really – but Clift came along in an era where it was impossible to be openly gay. Bomer is helping usher in an ere where that is no longer the case.
Deadline reports that the film project is to be directed by Larry Moss from a script by Christopher Lovick. They are shooting for a 2014 start date.
Bomer, the star of TV’s White Collar, made a splash on the big screen with a supporting role in the hit film Magic Mike. He also has a role in the upcoming film version of The Normal Heart.
Clift was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the 1940s and 50s with lead roles in such films as A Place in the Sun, From Here to Eternity, Raintree County, I Confess, The Young Lions, Suddenly Last Summer, and Judgement at Nurenburg,
His career and his quality of life suffered greatly following a car crash in 1956. He had several plastic surgeries to repair his face. He used pills and alcohol increasingly after that and died in 1966 at the age of 45.

I always thought that Kerr Smith (Jack on “Dawson’s Creek”) was a dead ringer for Clift. I realize that he’s not a “bankable” star but I would have loved to see him do this role. Not that I don’t love Matt as well. I’ve just held on to this hope for Kerr for a while. The resemblance is uncanny!

There are a lot of actors who would be great for the role of Montgomery Cliff including Kerr Smith. But in the perfect world of casting it has to be Matt Bomer,Hands down.
Sammy says:
Familiar with Monty Clift only through old films with Liz Taylor. Matt Bomer is perfect casting and accomplished talent to play Clift…no need for wishful thinking of ‘Fifty Shades’ to catapult his film career.
Brad Agry says:
Do we know the titlw of the movie yet? Is it basically the story of his life we think?
Joe says:
Very excited about a movie regading Montgomery Clift’s life, but also for the excellent casting of Matt Bomer.
Charlie says:
Clift was also great in The Misfits. That was a fantastic movie. Should be interesting to see what they do with Montgomerys life. Hopefully this movie won’t land on cable television like the “Behind the Candelabra” movie. I haven’t seen that one yet. Still waiting for the DVD.

Thanks for the lovely and enthusiastic article Greg! Yes, Matt is absolutely perfect for the role. Not only because he rivals Clift’s beauty but he also has the same sensitive, intense, and untapped talented side to him. I know he will stun everyone if the script allows him to.
Michael Din says:
Thanks for the coverage of our film, Greg. We appreciate the support!

This is the most joyful news I’ve heard in quite a while. Finally, Matt Bomer is cast as a leading man. Those of us who adore him as a human and admire him for his talent cannot WAIT to see him in this biopic. He is the perfect person to portray Monty Clift. Great job, Michael Din!
