“Mary Tyler Moore Show” Monday: When Sue Ann Nivens secretly helped Mary throw a dinner party

If you have to have a dinner party for six people – including a congresswoman – it’s nice to have the Happy Homemaker Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) to help you out.

Mary’s little party is highlighted by a veal dish but things threaten to fall apart when Lou Grant (Ed Asner) takes a big helping from a platter Mary is serving from. The scene where she takes him aside and says: “You have to put it back” is classic!

You’ll also notice that Rhoda (Valerie Harper) brings along a dinner guest and he’s played by a very young pre-Fonzie Henry Winkler!
