Marvel Entertainment and George & Brad Takei to receive Los Angeles LGBT Center Vanguard Awards
One of my favorite events on the calendar is the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Vanguard Awards which celebrate efforts to promote tolerance and understanding of LGBT people.
This year’s honorees have just been announced: Marvel Entertainment, George Takei and his husband Brad Takei and LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslovsky.
‘As we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the world’s largest provider of programs and services for LGBT people, we’re excited to honor some very deserving super heroes in our movement,’ says Center CEO Lorri L. Jean.
Jean says Marvel is being honored for its LGBT characters and story lines ‘that parallel the struggle to end discrimination against our community. (Marvel) has helped brighten the lives of LGBT kids — and adults alike — around the world.’
Of the other honorees she says: ‘George and Brad Takei are two of the nation’s most visible, dedicated and influential LGBT activists. Throughout his four decades of services to Los Angeles, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has been a fierce champion for LGBT people and strong ally to the Center.’
This year’s event will be held on November 8 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Click HERE for tickets and more information.
