Mario Lopez ready for Sunday’s Miami Gay Pride Parade: “If you come from a place of love you can’t go wrong”

This post could have been accompanied by any photo of Mario Lopez so why not go shirtless?

Mario, a nice Catholic boy, will be grand marshal of this weekend’s Miami Gay Pride Parade.

The host of TV’s Extra says he has no trouble reconciling his Catholic faith with his support of the LGBTI community and for its equality.

‘Like the pope said, “Who am I to judge?”‘ Lopez tells The Miami Herald.

‘If the pope says that, who am I to judge anyone. I feel at the end of the day, if you come from a place of love you can’t go wrong. I always try to come from a place of love with people and treat all people with respect. That’s just my approach towards folks.’

Lopez, 41, posted on Twitter Friday that he was on his way to Miami with wife Courtney Mazzo, the mother of his two children.

‘I’m supportive of events like these and supportive for a lot of the issues that gay pride stands for,’ Lopez says. ‘A couple of cousins of mine, who I’m very close to, happen to be gay. Just to rally with them and the family. I’m very close with them and like to support when I can.’

Back in 1997, Lopez took on a high-profile gay role when he starred in the TV movie Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story.

‘I didn’t have any qualms, to tell you the truth, about what people were going to think,’ he says of portraying the four-time Olympic gold medalist.

‘The only people who were important to me were in my family. Once I had their support, it really didn’t matter.’
