Marcus D’Amico, the original Michael “Mouse” Tolliver on “Tales of the City” has died at 55

Such terrible news.

Heard from my friend David Hudson of Queerty that Marcus D’Amico, the original Michael “Mouse” Tolliver on Tales of the City has died at 55.

He only played the role in the first mini-series (there have been three sequels since) but he left an indelible impression.

Few television experiences were as wonderful and memorable for me as a gay man as the first time I watched Amistead Maupin’s Tales of the City on PBS back in January of 1994. It was like this delicious treat and had a cast to die for that included Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, Barbara Garrick, Chloe Webb, Thomas Gibson and Paul Gross. Best of all, it had D’Amico as the sweet and adorable Mouse and Billy Campbell as his lover Jon Fielding.

Here’s a LINK to the Queerty story.

2 Remarks

  1. I’m very saddened by this news! He’s gone far too soon. IMO, Marcus’s Mouse was the heart of Tales of the City in a lot of ways. I had the privilege of seeing Marcus in Design For Living on the London stage many moons ago. He was charming and heartbreaking in many of his roles and will be missed. RIP.

  2. I join a lot of people who read about his death and had an “oh, no!” reaction. I absolutely loved him in the series, and it was an incredible cast. He was never replaced as the heart of the cast in future remakes, and no mixing or matching could ever replace the ideal coupling of him with Billy Campbell. That particulat series with that cast was truly one of the best television experiences I have ever had. It’s extremely sad that Marcus was lost so early. Mouse is irreplaceable
