Magic Johnson’s son loses 50 pounds after surgery

I know there are going to be plenty of people who will be critical of EJ Johnson over this bit of news but I just want to wish him all the luck in the world in shedding weight and keeping it off.

EJ, one of the stars of the reality TV series #RichKids of Beverly Hills, has lost 50 pounds in five weeks.

The openly gay son of NBA legend Magic Johnson underwent gastric sleeve surgery which is a procedure that makes the stomach smaller.

It is the same procedure that Rosie O’Donnell had done in March. The View co-host has lost 50-plus pounds.

Johnson, 22, tells People Magazine he had tried several diets without success and began to consider the surgery two years ago. This was before he came out publicly in an interview with TMZ.

‘Nothing was working, and I wanted to make a more permanent decision to get back on track,’ he says. ‘(But) I wanted to wait until I was a little bit older to know how to handle myself afterwards.’

He tells the magazine that dropping the weight ‘is really exciting’ because it ‘is something that I’ve been struggling with for pretty much all of my life.’

Johnson says he is eating healthy and eliminated things like bread and fried foods from his diet as well as alcohol. He hopes to reach his ideal weight within a year but does not say what that number is.

‘Being able to take control of my life again, take control of what I’m eating and my fitness is enlightening and empowering,’ he says.

2 Remarks

  1. I’m overweight myself. I lost 40 lbs once through dieting, but I gained it all back again. I wish EJ all the best.

  2. Love EJ. I know all to well the problems of losing weight and gaining it back again. The process of losing the weight isn’t so bad. It’s the keeping it off that’s hard work. I wish EJ great success with his weight goals and management.
