Lunch w/Greg: How to support Thom Bierdz on Y&R; A buff Matt Damon; NPH, Adam Lambert and Lance Bass out on town

Yesterday I wrote about my disappointment in the way the gay storylines have been either back-burnered or abandoned on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless.

I strongly believe the show has an opportunity to welcome and keep a strong core of gay fans who want to see themselves portrayed along with the rest of the people in the fictional Genoa City.

It seemed so promising with the return of Thom Bierdz this summer as Phillip Chancellor III and Yanni Gellman as Rafe Torres. Thrown into the mix in an initially tantalizing but ultimately disappointing way was the character of Adam played by Michael Muhney.

Read all about the storylines HERE.

Anyway, a very thoughtful reader has provided us with a direct way to let our voices be heard and to let producers know that we want to see Phillip’s storyline extended and developed and to keep this positive gay role model on TV.

Phillp (and Thom) returned to the show after a 20 year absence as an out gay man. How rich it could be to see him develop a relationship with his son, a friendship with his former wife and to have a love life!

Y&R has a comment line set up for fans to leave messages on the show. The number is 323-575-2345. When the operator answers, ask for the Y&R comment line. You will then leave your comments on voice mail.

I would also would like toi see Rafe brought out of mothballs now that he and Adam are kaput. As for Adam, it would be great to see him explore his sexuality more too since he did have that brief affair with Rafe.

DAMON’S NEW BOD: Matt Damon is a totally committed actor!

His commitment to his acting roles even extends to changing his body time and time again.

In The Talented Mr. Ripley, he took off all kinds of weight to appear quite thin (remember the speedo scene) as he wormed his way into the life of Jude Law. Earlier in his career, People Magazine’s 2007 Sexiest Man Alive got positively gaunt for his role in Courage Under Fire.

Then in the recent The Informant, he put on 30 extra pounds to play a mustachioed corporate vice president who becomes a government informant.

Personally, I like his latest body transormation: Matt has buffed up for Clint Eastwood’s Invictus, which tells the story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and the captain of South Africa’s rugby team Francois Pienaar (Damon) became allies to help unite the nation in the run-up to the 1995 World Cup.

One Remark

  1. I watched Y&R when it was New….in the 70’s, when Tom Selleck was on it!
But….it is the Dreariest and Darkest soap Ever! Bad lighting….worse acting…boring, boring, boring! Have an orgy with Doug Davidson, Don Diamont and Thom, and I Might watch the show! (Not even sure if Don is still on it, but my point stands!)

This soap should just go away.
