Lunch Break Videos: See Angelina Jolie and Steve Martin accept their honorary Oscars

Last night I posted Angela Lansbury’s presentation and acceptance speech from the Governors Awards over the weekend and now I present to you video of Steve Martin and Angelina Jolie accepting their honorary Oscars.

Martin, shockingly, has never been nominated for an Academy Award – not even for Roxanne or All of Me. It’s a reminder that Academy voters do not take comedy seriously.

His lifetime achievement award is quite deserving and his acceptance speech is both funny and moving.

Jolie does have an Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted and has been nominated for The Changeling. But this Oscar is for her work promoting humanitarian causes.

Her speech brings it all together beautifully, the transformation from self-interested actress to a dedicated humanitarian who really gets how fortunate she is.

Although her father, Jon Voight, is in the audience, he is not mentioned in a speech that pays tribute to partner Brad Pitt who she simply calls “my love” and oldest son Maddox. But the speech is built around the life lessons taught to her by her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and it is a most beautiful tribute from a daughter.
