Lunch Break Videos: Relive Emmy speeches by Meryl Streep, S. Epatha Merkerson and Elaine Stritch

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20040921/wd.jpgMeryl Streep won the second Emmy of her career for her performance in Angels In America.

She takes the trophy and says: “You know there are days when even I think I’m over-rated.” The audience laughs before she adds: “But not today.”

Then Meryl pays tribute to her fellow nominees Helen Mirren, Glenn Close and Judy Davis and notes that only Emma Thompson will be hold a grudge.

Remember when S. Epatha Merkerson’s speech fell down her dress? So funny!

Elaine Stritch’s classic speech the year she won for Elaine Stritch at Liberty beating out Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Crystal and Tracey Ullman.

2 Remarks

  1. And Stritch! In her “At Liberty” she tells us that after a long night of show biz buzzing, after an opening I think, almost at sunup, Judy finally tells her, “Stritch, I thought I’d never say this but Good night!”

[I have commented today in this order: Liza/Chita; Barbra/Ethel!/Judy!!, Barbara Stanwyck, and this. I’m an old queen, what can I say!]

  2. I love this site. It is not only a wonderful counterbalance to blindgossip.com but it highlights the best parts of the entertainment industry when so many sights blast the horrible parts of it to the point of nausea. What other site would post Meryl Streep’s oscar – such a wonderful clip! Thanks Greg and keep up the wonderful work. I am a huge fan!!!!
