Lunch Break Videos: Celebrating the great as ever Rita Moreno on her 84th birthday
Rita Moreno is one of the great showbiz legends who keeps on going strong.
She turns 84 today and believe me, she is one sexy octogenarian!
I’m thrilled that she is one of the recipients of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.
She is one of the few performers to have WON all four major annual American entertainment awards – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – and pointed out to me last year that she is a legitimate EGOT because none of her awards are honorary. Not even Barbra Streisand or Liza Minnelli can say that!
Of course she’s best known for West Side Story and The Ritz (on Broadway and film) but as a kid I only knew her as that lady from The Electric Company.

She played “Carmella” on “The Electric Company” and that show was my first exposure to her talent! I didn’t see “West Side Story” until about 8th grade (1979 or so) and I couldn’t believe it was the same woman!!
A true talent who deserves any and all accolades bestowed upon her!!

I first saw her in “West Side Story” when I saw it in a movie theater then remember her on “The Electric Company” on PBS. Later I saw her in “Singin’ in the Rain” and several other Hollywood classics. An awesome talent!
