Lunch Break Video: When TV stars and their theme songs were featured on the 1986 Emmy Awards

Came across this last night and it is something to see!

Picture it: the Emmy Awards, 1986. TV theme songs were still all the rage and producers gathered a stupendous array of TV stars to either sing a bit of their theme or walk across the stage gracefully as it was played by the orchestra.

It starts out gloriously with Marlo Thomas singing a bit of the That Girl theme then Linda Lavin, looking amazing, belting out a bit of the Alice theme followed by Bea Arthur doing a bit of Maude for us.

Some of the stars like Tom Wopat (Dukes of Hazzard) can really sing a tune while others, like Loretta Swit, give it a good try. I love Esther Roll doing a bit of Good Times and how hapless Gabe Kaplan looks walking down the steps to the tune of Welcome Back Kotter.

Looking anything but hapless is the great Dick Van Dyke who looks as agile as he ever did doing semi-pratfalls to the tune of his classic 1960s sitcom.

Carol Burnett brings it all home but, unfortunately, there are mic problems for her. But it’s all such fun.

Enjoy!

One Remark

  1. That was amazing! Thank you so much for posting it. I actually shed a couple of tears at some of the appearances.
