Lunch Break Video: When Helen Reddy paid a painful visit to Regis and Kathie Lee
When I was a kid, there was no bigger Helen Reddy fan than me. I’d go around the housing singing “Aaaaaaangie baby, she’s a special lady, living in a world oif make belieeeeeeeeeeeve!” Gee, and no one knew I was gay. Ha!
Anyway, I was in London in 1997 and got to see her performing in Blood Brothers and she was absolutely glorious. Later that year,. she joined the Broadway production and paid a visit to Regis and Kathie Lee to promote it. Is it me or does Miss Reddy look like she’d rather be standing on hot coals than be hanging out with those two?

Greg, she does look a little constipated in the beginning, but I think she was always a little more of the “I’m-serious-and-don’t-like-small-talk” side of things in public anyway. As tight as her face and body appear when she’s singing, it’s clear she’s more in her element while performing. Another thought: maybe she was uncomfortable with the weight gain and feeling more self-conscious in closeup (when not playing her maternal role on stage). Whatever, thanks for sharing the clip.
