Lunch Break Video: The late, great Doris Roberts reflects on her television career
Did you know know that Doris Roberts was originally hired to play Bea Arthur’s next door neighbor Vivian on Maude?
I sure didn’t!
The future five-time Emmy winner was quickly fired because it was felt that she was too similar to the show’s star so she was replaced b Rue McClanahan who had the role for six seasons.
Did you know that Doris was also set to be a regular on a Lily Tomlin variety show but ABC decided to pass on the show in favor of a very short-lived variety series starring Howard Cosell?
Big mistake!!
Miss Roberts,. who recently died at the age of 90, reflected on her television career for EmmyLegends.org.
From her Emmy winning role on St. Elsewhere to her role on Remington Steele to playing the meddling, overbearing mother Marie on the long-running Everybody Loves Raymond.
