Lunch Break Video: Some Helen Reddy classics for you to enjoy on the singer’s 70th birthday
I’m sure there are some people under the age of 30 who have no idea who Helen Reddy is.
But I sure do and bought all the 45s of her songs when I was a kid from the JC Pennys in Huntington Beach. They were less than a buck each!
Throughout the 70s, Miss Reddy was one of the biggest recording stars in the world with such hits as I Am Woman, Delta Dawn, I Don’t Know How to Love Him, You and Me Against the World, Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress), Angie Baby, Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady, Somewhere in the Night and You’re My World.
Miss Reddy even appeared in some movies – most famously as a singing nun in Airport 1975 and as the lead in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon.
I saw her in concert in the late 70s then on the London stage in 1997 when she was starring in Blood Brothers. It was terrific to finally meet her in 2006 when she was in Santa Monica signing copies of her autobiography.
Miss Reddy retired from showbiz several years ago but hopefully she’ll resurface and guest on something like The Rosie Show.
Hey! There’s an idea!

I KNOW I am Helen greatest fan. Maybe no one else does, but I do. I was just listening AGAIN to one of he songs and just started crying. I lost my dad 2 yrs ago and it made me think of him. “I AM WOMAN” is my theme song of and for life. I live that song. That song has made me who I am today, not who I was. I was battered and beaten, literally. I stuttered and was an introvert. Today, I Chair Presidential Campaigns as well as being a Local Politician myself. I am President of every organization I belong to. I am a business owner. “I am WOMAN” hear me ROAR!!!!

I love the idea of her coming to do the Rosie Show or something. I would do whatever I could to just give her a hug and thank her for helping to make me who I am today. I am 54 yrs old, married, have 2 daughters and just became the proudest grandmother (Aug.3rd.) of 4 of the most beautiful granchildren there is, ages 7,6,5 and 3. I am not a NUT I am as normal (whatever that is) as one can be. I do currently have 5 brain tumors and have no idea what the future holds for me except, wife, mom and grandmother. My bucket list has been fufilled EXCEPT to meet Helen. Please keep us informed. Thank you for what you do!
