Lunch Break Video: First official trailer for “J. Edgar” starring Leonardo DiCarprio and Armie Hammer
Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for Clint Eastwood’s latest biopic J. Edgar which was written by Dustin Lance Black.
The film, set for release in November, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and Armie Hammer as his professional and personal partner.
Also in the cast: Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Josh Lucas, and Jeffrey Donovan.
So, will DiCaprio finally get an Oscar? He’s been so good in so many films for so long. If the entirety of his performance is as good as it appears to be in this trailer, then I’d say he’s a shoo-in for at least another nomination.

This definitely one movie I want to see because of the subject, the rumors for decades, the actors, and the director.

I’m in my late 30’s and kinda grew up with Leonardo, who I feel has shown and proved his talents for some time. I remember when he was Luke on “Growing Pains” and seeing him blossom as Arnie in “Gilbert Grape”. I think Leo is my generation’s Robert Redford. Redford is another great actor, like Leo and a Hollywood Gem, like Leo but the Oh-So fickle Academy loves both of these men to a certain degree. I know they appreciate their hard work and honing their craft as they do but not enough to nominate them. You have to remember that neither one has won an Oscar for acting. Yes, Redford has 2 Oscars and one is for directing and the other is an honorary award. Every film Leo does your praying it’s going to be his time but even with this film and it looks damn good, I think everyone around him is going to win something or get nominated for something. My prediction is legendary and still as sharp-as-a-tack-on-point and beautiful Clint Eastwood (I’m such a groupie), who is just genius on every level, is going to snag a few directing awards. Dame Judi Dench is going to clean up as well during award season. I want to throw Leonardo in a catergory with some of the greats, like De Niro and Pacino because I know as well as the world knows that he is capable of such greatness. There is a flaw and that is just the fact that you tend to still see Leonardo whenever he tackles a role. He digs really deep and you see the conviction but somehow you tend to still see him. I can’t explain it the way I mean and it’s no disrespect to Leo because not only is he one of the sexiest men alive but he is super-talented. I just know that when I watched “The Aviator” and “Catch Me If You Can”, they both were based on true stories, about two totally different people. Leo was brilliant in both roles but for some reason he didn’t disconnect himself enough. I know it doesn’t make too much sense what I’m trying to say but you know the thing that Meryl Streep does in every role that she takes on. There is no way that you can connect her roles in “Sophie Choice” with her playing Julia Childs in “Julie and Julia” . Johnny Depp is someone that is another actor that has this ability to disconnect himself enough in every role.
