Lunch Break Video: Remember when the Sweeney sisters opened the 1988 Emmys?
I remember taping this and watching it a bunch of times: It’s Jan Hooks and Nora Dunn doing their Saturday Night Live act as the lounge singing Sweeney sisters.
These ladies were so brave!
They sing various TV songs with the highlight being when the sing the theme to The Mary Tyler Moore Show to MTM herself who was nominated that year for her performance as Mary Todd Lincoln in NBC’s Gore Vidal’s Lincoln. They also do the Star Trek theme when they spot William Shatner in the audience.
The ladies wander into the audience and make remarks to the stars. When they see Bea Arthur, they yell: “Maude!” She does not look amused. Then there were two sets of newlyweds sitting right near each other: Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollard (still married with four children) and Mike Tyson and Robin Givens! (They had a bad split after a brief and stormy marriage).
Okay, I’ll let you watch it now! Enjoy!
