Lunch Break Video: Relive the Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson musical number from “Rio Bravo”
I will be posting my recap of four splendid days at the TCM Classic Film Festival later today.
But I will tell you now that one of my favorite movies from the festival was screened Sunday at Grauman’s Chinese Theater: Rio Bravo.
This 1959 Western is about small-town sheriff (John Wayne) in the American West and he enlists the help of a cripple (Walter Brennan), a drunk (Dean Martin) and a young gunfighter (Ricky Nelson). The sheriff also finds time for romance with a beautiful young widow (Angie Dickinson).
As I was watching the film, I thought to myself, “They’ve got two of the most successful singers in history – Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin – in dramatic roles. What a pity we don’t get to hear them sing.”
But we DO! I had never seen the film so was not aware of this little sing-along.
Loved it and you will too.

I grew up with b/w tv watching Oz and Harriet. Remember when he tried to move from being Ricky to Rick — did not work. When the family finally got color tv, I was so happy to be able to see the color of his eyes and … sorry he ‘left us way too early’. Much later learned of drugs in the family including his wife, Christine [from the Harmon family] and his twin sons.

Speaking of his twin sons, have they ever given him grandchildren???
